Age: 34 Date of Death: 1 May 1943 Son of Alfred Thomas Barber, and of Elizabeth Barber, of East Dereham. Sgt Alfred Barber was a gunner on Lancaster ED451 of 106 Squadron. The other members of the crew were Sgt Sydney Abel (pilot), Sgt John Alderson (flight engineer), Plt Off Vincent Nono (navigator), Sgt Stanley Plaskett (bomb aimer), Sgt Charles Harrower (wireless operator), and Sgt Douglas Brown (gunner). On the night of 30 April 1943 they took off from RAF Syerston to bomb Essen but the aircraft crashed at Wulfen, a town on the E bank of the River Wient, 7 km NE of Dorsten. All the crew were killed and were buried at Wulfen, but they have been subsequently re-interred in the REICHSWALD FOREST WAR CEMETERY. Source LOST BOMBERS
