Colin Jarred was killed whilst a Production Test Pilot, attached to Vickers Supermarine, Henley. When flying Spitfire IV BR643 on a production test flight the engine failed. Attempting a forced landing he collided with trees and crashed at Gates House Farm, Lurgashall, near Midhurst, Sussex, and caught fire. He had previously flown with 41 Squadron from 29 August 1941 to late 1941.
